USDA Grant Supported Food Armor Training Opportunity

Welcome

Supported by a USDA grant, this in-person Food Armor program aims to:

1) Educate veterinary students and veterinarians specifically in the areas of food safety, responsible drug use and antimicrobial stewardship in animal agriculture.

2) Provide attendees with skills to support a sustainable business model that can be used to enhance veterinary services in rural areas through implementation of learned concepts. This includes training for farm certification. New online producer courses are available for farm employee training in English and Spanish.

This opportunity is open to all veterinarians, with preference given to veterinary students and graduate veterinarians less than 15 years into practice. Attendees will receive a travel stipend to come to Madison, WI to participate in a full day Phase I and a half day Phase II training sessions.

Activities

Friday, January 20th, 2023

8 am to 5 pm Training

Learn all the Food Armor concepts and start putting those skills to practice. Sessions will include presentations, active discussions, application of concepts and group work.

30 total spots available- Open to all but preference will be given to veterinary students and graduates out less than 15 years.

Saturday, January 21st, 2023

8 am to Noon Training

Practice the concepts learned while covering the pages of the fillable pdf available for on farm use to develop the complete Food Armor HACCP for Proper Drug Use program. Sessions will include presentations, active discussions and working through a practice farm.

The in-person meeting will be held at the Hotel Indigo in downtown Madison.

All qualifying participants will receive a travel stipend to offset costs associated with getting to Madison, WI.

  • Car Travel

  • $375
  • If traveling by car, each participant will receive a $375 stipend to offset hotel and fuel costs.
  • Airline Travel

  • $650
  • If traveling by airplane, each participant will receive $650 to offset airline and hotel costs.
